Review of Happy - Pharrell Williams

Pharrell has made a dramatic entrance into the world of pop this year first with 'Blurred Lines' which he featured in with Robin Thicke an T.I. and now with his catchy, somewhat minimalist single entitled 'Happy' which was specially created for the release of Despicable Me 2.

Pharrell's 'Happy' has hardly any faults; with a powerful soul voice singing a perfectly simple and undecorated melody line, it's unbelievably catchy and you feel forced to dance and sing along, and it actually does make you feel HAPPY! The irresistible upbeat tone makes it a brilliant single for the start of a new year, bringing people optimism and hope for the upcoming year.

The contrasting clapping section provides a simple yet different and effective section from the singing which is quite well timed due to the repetition of the lyrics. This is a clever break up from the lyrics with such a simple idea.

Don't be fooled...this is NOT your average pop song; it's summery vibes relax you and put you at ease with a wonderful innocence which is very rare in modern pop songs.

Well done Pharrell for creating such a sincere and beautiful new song, we all hope that this is the beginning of a long and successful career.
